There are many tribes like the celts, aquitani, and the belgae. These tribes were in the same area and the romans ended up conquering this area of france and called it gaul. There was a long history of roman ruling. After the roman collapse, the germanic tribe called franks took over. This works with catholicism as the dominant religion (496 ce). In 732 the franks defeat the moors. The moors are an islamic empire that has come to dominate a lot of europe at the time.
