Document Summary
Main things: sensation, perception, psychophysics, absolute threshold, perceiving forms patterns and objects bottom up top down. Psychophysicists: people who study how physical stimuli are translated into psychological experiences. Absolute threshold: minimum amount of stimulus that one detect 50% of the time. (figure 1) As stimuli are bigger, the difference also has to be bigger. When stress is added, one is more paranoid and more likely to say they detect something. Abc; 12, 13, 14 : 13 or b. depending on context. Feature build up to form an entire image. Firing of cells: different patterns of cells firing affects what is perceived. Have a hypothesis that if you see a and c, the letter in the middle should be b. From big cognitive ideas of what should be there, to double checking that it is actually there. E. g. square: as it goes further away, it is more like a trapezoid, but it is still seen as a square.
