PSY210H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Inductive Reasoning, Moral Reasoning, Social System
Document Summary
2nd hour - chapter 12 - moral understanding and behavior. Questions related to morality have been a major focus of philosophers throughout history. A developmental psychological perspective highlights that human reasoning about morals ( right" and wrong") changes with age and is often influenced by sociocultural context. Self-control entails the ability to control one"s behavior and to inhibit impulsive responding to temptations. Aware that others impose demands that set limits on behavior. Internalize some control; can exercise control without parents. Ex. remembers not to grab a toy from another child. Ex. if another child has a toy they are interested in, they can inhibit their interest in it by directing attention elsewhere. Inducing the child to reason and think for themselves about the situation. Are you allowed to draw at school, are you allowed to draw at grandma"s house , why are you allowed to draw at our house". Doesn"t allow the child the opportunity to internalize control.
