Personality: all the ways we have of acting, thinking, believing, and feeling that make each of us unique. Personality trait: a complex pattern of behaviour, thought, and feeling that is stable across time and across many situations. An enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the individual"s culture. The pattern is inflexible, stable and generally begins in adolescence. Disordered behavior appears when these individuals find themselves in situations that are beyond their ability to cope. Except antisocial personality disorder: more common in men. Dsm-5 organizes the 10 disorders into three clusters: Cluster b: dramatic, emotional or erratic disorders. Traits in disorder more extreme version of normal personality. Can be both healthy and maladaptive personality styles. Stability is key to all three of these levels of healthy self. Both genetic and environmental factors are involved: odd eccentric pd (cluster a) Pattern of detachment from social relationships and a restricted range of emotional expression.
