Assumptions world is complex/constructed with no objective view and cannot be reduced to variables. Approach: inductive starting from bottom or deductive, starting from an idea observational, descriptive. Takes more time and skills and cannot be generalized. Eg organization responds to threat in one way, cannot generalize all organizations to respond in the same way. Approach: deductive, manipulation: a lot of data and information. Cons: scale, massive, generalization, validity missed depth and contrast, massive data where some can be seen as relevant, question format is important.
