Lecture 9: culture and power june 9, 2016. There are different ways in which power can be conceptualized. Can be thought of as the kinds of knowledge that are considered more powerful in society. What kinds of ppl are seen as legitimate sources of authority. We"re socialized into these notions (ex. parents have authority over their children) We"re shaped or socialized into these larger cultural meaning systems and how we should experience them. Not only defining certain roles but in defing how power and culture come together at the level of sociology. How some groups tend to be more privileged than others -> related to historical relationships between these groups. Our social location shapes our perspectives and expectations on the world. By looking at cultural objects that reflect or reinforce who has the most power. Allow us to see who is represented and as such how as the ability to be represented.
