There is massive inattention to women in criminology and the little attention given is sexist and degrading with. There is also false equity approaches that disproportionately affect female offenders; having what seemed like fair sentences for women and men ended up leaving women far worse than men. For example, you and your boyfriend are drug sellers and the boyfriend operates the whole thing but the girlfriend is the labourer. The male then has information to exchange and therefore get a much lesser sentence because he can exchange information for deduction in sentence whereas the girlfriend doesn"t have anything to offer. A lot of these theories acknowledge sex and gender as important factors for understanding social organization and how its treated in other contexts. It also pays attention to social contexts and how it shapes behaviours and the expectations for those behaviours; many behaviours are stereotyped.
