Document Summary
Purpose of the law is to serve the common good. Positive law/human law derives its legitimacy from natural law. Natural law is right and wrong/moral truth that exists apart from our will. By him who has care of the community. It is the function of reason to order to an end, the end being happiness or beatitude on the individual and communal level. Law is for the good of the most amount of people and the community not for the rulers or enforcers of the law. Cannot be obligated to follow the law if the law is not known. Since laws are for the common good the whole community should participate in making the law. Some people are born with a character suited for ruling. The pattern of divine wisdom according to which it directs all acts and motions (4) Participation of the rational creature in the eternal law. The part of eternal law that applies to human beings.
