BIOL 430 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Lacrimal Apparatus, Lacrimal Gland, Eyelid
Document Summary
Hearing/ear: sense of balance is linked with hearing. Receptor organs of sight: fxn-receive images and transmit to brain, structure- eyeball, accessory structures, adnexa (whole as group) include: Upper and lower protect eye from foreign matter: canthus: angle where upper and lower eyelids meet, medial canthus: nearest to nose, lacteral canthus: farthest from nose. Accessory structures of the eye (602 lysozyme) (page 346 diagram) Lacrimal or tear apparatus: produce, store and drain tears to keep the eyeball moist and sweep away debris that might enter the eye. The lacrimal gland which secretes tears is located on the underside of the upper eyelid. Blinking helps distribute the tears across the eye. Conjunctiva: thin mucous membrane that lines the inner aspect of the eyelids and the anterior surface of the wall. Composed of three layers of tunics: outermost layer or the fibrous tunic, middle opaque layer or choroid, innermost layer or the retina.
