Psychoanalytically based measure that presents ambiguous stimuli to clients on the assumption that their responses can reveal their unconscious conflicts. Provide ambiguous stimuli that are interpreted by the test subject according to unconscious needs/impulses. Person is asked to explain each of 10 ink blots (half of the blots are in color while half are black and white) Person is shown a series of pictures and asked to explain the story behind each. Conception of the real world, relationships to others, significant conflicts, nature of anxieties, main defenses used, degree of reality testing, impulse regulation, thought processes, and sense of conscience. Lack of evidence for their utility to predict behaviors (predictive validity) Evidence that practitioners score them in different ways, also tamper with psychometric properties. Bias against ethnic minority groups, who don"t project to white images. Such tests are inferential and lack high reliability and validity. Assessment of brain and nervous system functioning by testing an individual"s performance on behavioral tasks.
