Shortcuts for judging others allows us to accurately make rapid perceptions and give valid data for making predictions. However, this can, at times, result in a lot of distortions. Any characteristic that makes a person, an object, or an event stand out, increases the chances we perceive it. This is because it isn"t possible for us to assimilate all the things we see; we can only take in some stimuli. We use selective perception because we can"t see everything that happens around us. We don"t randomly choose things, though, we select things based on our: When we see what we want to see, we can draw unwarranted conclusions from an unclear situation.
