Their power and ability to affect/ influence public policy comes from numbers/ volume/ more people (amount of people) We are just individualis compared to interest groups which have more individuals and more money. Interest groups can do it because of money and more people. Access = contacts and relationships to get things done. Expertise: know every single detail about everything they are lobbying about better than any legislator. Can marital members to do advocating plus directly influence decision makers. 1: trade associations, labor unions, professions associations. Focused around specific issue or public policy area. Ex) save the trees, environmental defense, sierra clubs. These businesses are competing with each other. Literally there is an interest group for every business. Nra is a trade association (national restaurant association) Represent workers who belong to their union. Have to be in that union to work in that job. Collective bargaining : negotiate on behalf of their members (contract)
