Able to translate 12 of the pecked designs into english and found that 7 are family names and 5 were wishes or blessings looking at context: where were these hand pecked designs found. Shift from traditional form: blessing on vessel to ownership of ceramic in tenement. Mainly found in the houses of men who came to work and in stores. Hand pecked designs with blessings were found in stores. Plant remains typically are charred when they preserve very well. Use flotation to find and recover these. Macroscopic and microscopic remains are what we work with. Macroscopic: things we can see with our bare eyes, ie nuts and seeds.
