Myths and legends of california and the old southwest. Origin stories from new mexico, ca, and arizona. So many different perspectives of native peoples. What: beginning of time -- creation of animals and humans. Men and creatures are more alike then than they are now. Seen as dark and eerie but then sun came out. Separated animals and people into two different categories when sun came out. People developed philosophically and think of themselves as differently from others. Most see themselves as lesser than animals. Focused on how people and animals were similar. Coyote began the creation of earth, but eagle completed it. Wondered if they should let men live always or not. He is the trixer -- bigger and stronger than fox. Coyote is there to teach a lesson. The indians were freezing, so he kept them warm. Coyote had an influence, but he was a thief/sneaky. How old man above created the world.
