Document Summary

As air rises it cools and releases precipitation, and warms as it releases with little moisture. Urban environments produce much more heat than rural environments. Biomes are defined as the world"s major communities, classified according to the predominant vegetation and characterized by adaptations of organisms to that particular environment. Distinct communities that have formed in response o a shared climate. Climate and biomes change with both elevation and latitude. Clines consist of ecotypes of species that exhibit gradual phenotypic and/or genetic differences over a geographical area, often due to environmental heterogeneity. Annual precipitation is low and often scattered unevenly throughout the year. Most deserts get less than ten inches. Tropical- hottest and dryest, few plant species, can get cold at night (high on the graph) Temperate- slightly more precipitation (right around middle) Cold- not a lot of precipitation (higher heightened curve w more range) Short life cycle, germinating in response to rain, growing, flowering, and dying within one year.
