Scholars debate various explanations for why these school characteristics affect student outcomes. Civil rights movement fight for racial integration of schools was a struggle for equal education. Mid 1960"s to early1970"s: major national efforts to create racially diverse schools and achieve integration. Most struggles for school desegregation involved allowing minority students attending inferior schools to attend predominately white schools.
