Document Summary

Breathing: an involuntary activity controlled by the brain. It changes level of oxygen and co2 in the blood. When co2 levels increase, our breathing rate increases. When o2 levels increases, our breathing rate decreases (when we have enough oxygen we do not need to get more in). Chronic vs acute: when our body is chronically in amed, it will impact other systems as well. It is the inability of our air sacs to expand and contract. Shortness of breath while walking short distances. Going up and down stairs is dif cult. Dif culty speaking for an extended period of time. Copd tends to be present in older people. Many people live with it and don"t know. Scary: thinking that you might not be able to breath if you do a certain thing. Shortness of breath can also be due to a cardiac problem so you need to get checked both your lungs and your heart.
