Decisions in superior courts in other jurisdictions, such as those in another australian state and territory, or other common law country, are influential and may be used as precedent, but these determinations are persuasive, rather than binding. Jurisdiction which enables them to deal with both criminal and civil matters of a relatively minor nature. Magistrates court, court of petty sessions, local court and court of summary jurisdiction. Preliminary hearings or committal proceedings with respect to indictable offences to determine prima facie (sufficient evidence). Specialist courts (coroners and children"s) and problem-solving courts (indigenous, mental health and family violence). An array of tribunal/commissions (e. g. small claims/civil and administrative crimes compensation, workers compensation, administrative appeals, residential tenancy, human rights and migrant review). Experienced judge and jury in contested matters, most serious cases, including homicide and most complex civil disputes involving claims for an unlimited amount of compensation and/or damages.
