Rain & snow melt that runs off land surface and collects in lakes and rivers. Stream any body of water that flows in a channel rivers = large streams. Load = the amount of material being carried by a river. Velocity = the speed of a river in meters per second m/s. Discharge = volume of water moving past a point per unit time. Rivers carry sediment in a number of forms: Quantity of sediment carried by a river. Depends on velocity of river and amount of water flowing (discharge) Volume of water moving past a point over a unit time. Q = w x d x v. Water moving through a plane in time (q) Duration of event units of time (t) Intensity = amount / duration (l/t, mm hr -1 ) Rating curve: empirical relationship between field-measured flow depth and discharge. Correlates q with a simpler measure, height.
