Document Summary

This is important because in order to determine the net reabsorption or secretion of a particular substance, you need to use both of these equations: Net reabsorption or secretion = filtered load - excretion rate. Filtered load: amount of substance filtered into bs per unit time. Excretion rate: amount of substance that is excreted in the urine per unit time. A difference between these two would indicate that some sort of secretion or reabsroption occured between being filtered out of the glomerulus and leaving the body. this is why the equation for net reabsorption/filtration makes sense. The examples used in the slides are sodium and para-aminohippuric acid. Sodium had a positve difference , meaning that it gets reabsorbed , while pah had a negative difference , meaning it gets secreted from peritubular capillaries. 2)draw and label the epithelial membrane of the nephron and distinguish modes of transcellular and paracelluar transport. Interstiltial lumen = secretion from peritubular membrane.
