Experimental research- manipulation of an independent variable, statistical analysis, random assignment. Nonexperimental research- no manipulation of iv and / or random assignment. You can remove one or the other, or both. When it is not possible/feasible/ethical to manipulate the iv. When it is not possible/feasible/ethical to use random assignment. But no random assignment (usually because difficult or impossible) Usually test treatments where groups cannot be assigned. Correlational measures a sample and the relationship between age and empathy. Quasi-experimental looks at older and younger people and measures empathy intervention in both groups. Threats to internal validity that can occur with quasi-experimental research.
