PSY 492D Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Quid Pro Quo, Emotional Labor
Document Summary
Have a working knowledge of various interpersonal stressors in the workplace. Understand how interpersonal stressors are related to worker health and well-being. All those acts that repeatedly and persistently aim to torment, wear down, or frustrate a person, as well as all repeated behaviors that ultimately would provoke, frighten, intimidate, or bring discomfort to the recipient. Receiving a certain thing for behaving a certain way/doing something. Somebody"s behavior creates an environment that is uncomfortable for what the law says is a "reasonable person" Example: two coworkers engaging in a relationship, making everyone else uncomfortable. Can affect both the people in the relationship and everyone else around. *in court, it is easier to find evidence for quid pro quo. Negative behaviors directed toward an individual because of ascribed characteristics. Unequal treatment or lack of possible opportunities because of one"s ascribed characteristics rather than on the basis of qualifications or performance. Somebody literally gets denied a promotion/raise/etc. because of race, gender, etc.
