Economic reforms -> antimonopoly and antitrust laws which broke up the old. Zaibatsu (powerful monopolies, which destroyed competitive businesses) + Redistribution of land by buying land from powerful landowners and selling it cheap to tenant farmers. Social reforms -> expansion of civil rights: for example, vote for women in 1946 + trade union law that guaranteed japanese workers the right to organize, strike and engage in collective bargaining.
