GEOG 001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 23: Wallace Line, Systems Theory, Insitu
Document Summary
Separation or divisions of ecological or geographic boundaries. Isolates and separates populations leading to speciation (species evolution) Often due to geographical change e. g. godnwanan elements wallace line. Natural community succession, moving targets due to an environmental pressure. E. g. in water absence a community may drift or migrate to adapt to the ecological pressure. Core areas of habitat where special environmental circumstances have enabled a species to survive after extinction in surrounding areas. Critical for strategic, long term planning of protected areas. Nature is understood to have certain characteristics due to human constructed. Social context- relations between people (place/time) beliefs, economic organisation, governance institution. Constructivist perspective- scrutinise our experiences- show nature is a product of social processes- either 1. E. g. social construction nature is pristine and authentic and place is a construct. A clearly defined geographical space recognised and dedicated to the protection and maintenance of biological diversity and nature/cultures.
