A journalist is someone who is involved in acquiring information and figuring out how to present it to the audience. Something that affects a lot of people. Prominence: prominent people know how to speak and they receive attention (celebrities, athletes, politicians). Covering prominent people is easy, covering regular people is more difficult. Example: it took us by surprise trump winning the election because we never focused attention on the common people"s opinions. We focused on what the prominent people were saying about trump. It determines how we report those stories. It determines how we write those stories. It determines when/where the stories are placed. Hundreds of fish turn up dead in a gainesville creek. Neutrinos are found to be the smallest subatomic particle. A packing plant in mexico is believed to be the source of the salmonella outbreak that infected at least 1,170 americans this year.
