Journalism have three ways of getting information for a story: observation, research and interviewing. There are three ways to interview someone: in person, by phone, by email. Write down some questions/taking points that you want to cover. Bring notepad, writing instruments, tape recorder (or phone), extra batteries (charger) Listen: if you"re looking at them and paying attention, they"ll respond better. Follow, follow, follow: until you feel you have a grasp about one initial question. Pay attention to speech patterns: everybody answer questions in a different way. Establish relationship through the above and active listening. In other words, this is your decision . These seem to be the key ideas you have expressed. If i understand you, you feel this way about the situation . Go from easy to hard, unless you only have a couple of minutes. Listen carefully to response and follow up nearly each question. Don"t leave a topic until you have all of the specifics.
