10 views3 pages

Document Summary

People who are malingering go out of their way to prove they"re blind or impaired (on a blind test they always choose the wrong answer, conversion don"t) Freud"s four basic processes: the individual experiences a traumatic event, they repress the conflict, anxiety continues to increase and the person converts it into physical symptoms (primary gain), and lastly, the individual receives much attention (secondary gain) Conversion disorder occurs more often in less educated and lower socioeconomic. Neuroscientists are increasingly finding a strong connectivity between the conversion symptom and parts of the brain regulating emotion, such as the amygdala. Reduce secondary gain as much as possible. Derealization- sense of the reality of the external world is lost; one dissociates from reality. Depersonalization- perception alters so you temporarily lose sense of your reality. Disintegrated experience- where you think you"re someone else, different personality, memories, and even different physical reactions.
