For all the ardent egalitarianism of early movement, feminism had unforeseen consequence of heightening class differences b/w women. Was educated, middle-class women who successfully used feminist ideology and solidarity to advance themselves. Discrepancies between middle/upper middle class women and poor, working class women on welfare, health care, and housework. Things were a hot feminist issue in 70s and 80s, but now, they"re dead. Problem: many middle- and upper-middle class women could no longer see why a woman should be subsidized to raise her children. In 70s and 80s, women"s health movement made a lot of progress.
