Yellow submarine; white album; abbey road; let it be. By 1968 they had begun retreat from the grandiose. The beatles disbanded in april 1970, only 8 years after their first record. Each went on to have successful solo careers but the body of work created by the group stands as the greatest achievement of any/all of its members. The beatles" studio work represents a significant leap forward in music production, overdubbing, back masking, creation of new sound worlds in rock music. They transformed rock music into the dominant style and the way music was consumed (singles to albums) In december of 1980 all hopes of a beatles reunion were lost when an assassins bullet took the life of john lennon. Motown started by berry gordy (record label/detroit motor town) Black music had lost its social stigma, especially among young people. Detroit and memphis became the epicenters of black music along with muscle.
