Document Summary
The qing dynasty was the last dynasty of china (1644-1911). After its fall, china became a republic and eventually a communist dictatorship. The manchus (from manchuria), were another foreign dynasty that conquered china. They come from a long line of them: liao, jin, yuan, There are 3 phases of qing rule: early qing (1644-1654) was their rise, high. The manchus were a group of hunters, fishers, merchants and farmers and were very similar to the jurchens. The founder of the qing dynasty was qing taizu or nurhaci. He is responsible for unifying the manchu tribes much like genghis khan unified mongolia. Under his rule, the dynasty was not called qing, but manchu. Hong taiji, nurhaci"s son, names the dynasty qing. The manchu emerged in northeastern china in the 16th century. They originated from the ming garrison system and protected ming from the mongols when the great wall proved ineffective. However, they did not protect the ming for free.
