Marriage is a kind of bond that is a socially recognized union of 2 people that entails certain rights and obligations. Traditionally, it is a method of regulating heterosexual intercourse by defining who is a legitimate sexual partner and by determining the status of children. Marriage establishes relationships that are the foundation for families and households. Rules that specify the group in which you must marry within. You must marry the people with same religion as you: exogamy. Rules that specify the group in which you must marry outside. You must marry people that is not your family (incest: incest taboo (it is a rule part of exogamy) Solidifies existing bonds - endogamy: creating alliances. Marrying to other clans creates a connection to others. Many partner vs 1: polyandry vs polygyny (part of polygamy) Polyandry is where a woman having several husbands. Polygyny is where husband has more than 1 wife: same-sex marriage.
