Document Summary

Explain why the removal of wastes is essential for continued metabolic activity. As a result of metabolism, many waste products are formed e. g. carbon dioxide. If these were allowed to accumulate, they would slow down metabolism and kill the cells. This is why they need to be quickly removed, or converted into less toxic forms. The build-up of nitrogenous wastes such as ammonia, which causes an increase in ph among cells (making them more alkaline) must be removed or turned into a less toxic form quickly. Identify the role of the kidney in the excretory system of fish and mammals. Excretory system is a group of organs that function together to remove metabolic wastes from tissues of an organism and expel them outside. Function: in excretion the kidney is to filter the blood that enters it, removing wastes from the bloodstream so that they can be excreted from the body.
