How do genes influence broad patterns of behaviour- big five. Concerns about eugenics, cloning, genetic editing- book is wrong. A 4 member committee would determine whether people were incapable of parenthood. Phenotype: physical appearance of a plant or animal. Genotype: genetic makeup of a plant or animal. Genetics has an effect on intelligence but only if youre raised in an enriched environment. Due to genotypic variance (difference in genes) Is not constant or immutable- heritability changes over time. For heritable traits, personality similarity should increase with genetic similarity. Family studies: compare children to parents and siblings to eachother. Twin studies: compare identical and fraternal twins (not necessarily reared apart) Adoption studies: compare adopted children to adoptive and biological parents (ideally twins reared apart) Goal is to identify specific gene-trait links using the association method: gene-trait relationships. Allele: different forms of the same gene. Two big five related alleles: drd4 affects dopamine receptors- plasticity.
