Implicit personality theories: filling in the blanks. Implicit personality theory: a type of schema people use to group various kinds of personality traits together; for example, many people believe that someone who is kind is generous as well. We use attribution and apply it to our lives to explain behavior and such. Kelley"s covariation model: locating the cause internally or externally people do this considering three dimensions: Distinctiveness: does this person behave the same way across different stimuli? (ex. Low distinctiveness would lead to what kind of attribution: If you laugh at everything then it"s something about you. That would be external, because everyone agrees. Situational, because it depends on the circumstances one person finds themselves in. Discounting: the role of one cause in producing an effect is discounted or lessened if other possible causes are present. When you"re not so confident in skill because of other contributing factors.
