James regrants land to two friends: james regrants the land between the hudson and delaware rivers to sir george carteret and john berkeley (lord berkeley) Colony grows quickly: berkeley and carteret both encouraged immigration, they did this by offering generous land grants, limited freedom of religion, and a representative assembly (the latter not made known to the king)
