Document Summary

Psychopharmacology is a branch of pharmacology, which studies the action of drugs on brain functions, and therefore on cognitions, perceptions, thoughts and motor behaviors. It is considered a basic tool of general medicine, psychiatry, neurology, neuroscience in general, and even clinical psychology . On this last point, and although psychologists are not academically prepared, nor legally empowered, to prescribe drugs, they must at least know the effects of the most common. Experimental : study the effects of the drug on behavior (both motor and covert), using experimental and quasi-experimental techniques. It works at the level of organisms as wholes, rather than looking for the specific phenomenon at the level of nervous tissue. Clinical : it studies what happens in the nervous system, as an effect of drugs. It works at the tissue level, although its applications translate into prescriptions, such as dosage, interaction with other medications, frequency of administration, side effects, side effects, etc.
