Document Summary

Gorman et al (2006) conduct research with methylphenidate with the aim of evaluating the effects of this drug on different subtypes of adhd. It washypothesized that in adhd patients they would respond better to low doses of methylphenidate than adhd-combined. According to these researchers, improvements occur in both subtypes, both in calculation tasks and in tasks-incompatible s behaviors. Patients with the combined subtype also improved in behavioral and aggressiveness problems. There"s a lot written about the secondary affections of psychostimulants. Some tend to minimize them and others to oversize them. The reality, the scientific evidence, is that they are quite safe drugs and that, if we balance the risk/benefit, we clearly have to position ourselves alongside the benefit. Efron et al. (1997) compares the secundarios effects of methylphenidate and amphetamines, being significantly lower in methylphenidate, table 4. However, the most important thing about this research was to find the large number of "side effects" alleged by parents in baseline.
