ANATOMY 1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Myelin, Saltatory Conduction, Special Senses
Document Summary
What is the function of a neuron in general? irritability and conductivity (carry impulse) Once conduct the impulse so can carry any impulse that carry irritability or conducting anything. Neurons covered with a myelin sheath, whitish under microscope. Gray matter: uncovered with a myelin sheath, dark under microscope. White matter refers to myelinated fiber in: Conduction is fastest in neuron that are myelinated. Impulse jump from one node of ranvier to the following, they name this conduction as: Bipolar, multipolar and unipolar, where each is found: Bipolar (1 axon and 1 dendrite) found in special senses organ (nose and eye) Unipolar: sensory neurons found in pns ganglia. Nerve impulse run from point to point, movement of sodium and potassium. Nerve starts from here and moves to there, fast run through this segment of the nerve. Action potential: fast running of an impulse. Nerve impulse transmission along the myelinated neuron: saltatory conduction.
