Highly organized network of 2 types of cells. Brain + cranial nerves and their branches. Spinal cord + spinal nerves and their branches. Most nerve impulses that stimulate contraction of muscles and secretion of glands originate in cns. Cranial nerves + branches, ganglia, enteric plexuses, sensory receptors link all parts of body to cns. Nerve = bundle of hundreds-thousands of axons (nerve cell fibers) + ct and blood vessels.
