Some studies have demonstrated that almost 20% of the population will at some time in their lives experience an affective (or mood) disorder. May not be considered statistically abnormal yet they are clearly abnormal conditions: personal distress. What: present when the individual reports feeling distressed. : fear, apprehension, depression, despair, confusion: limitation: not all disorders result in personal distress for the individual. Ex: alone, violation of norms, what: behaviours or thoughts that run counter to what might be considered appropriate. Ex: limitation: social norms change over time and across cultures.
