Ecological factors: people are evolved to maximize survivability and ability to reproduce. Most of food for hunter gatherers comes from foraging, as hunting often failed (included shellfish and plants in gathering) Gathering is the most steady source of food for early peoples (generally done by women, but also men when hunts fail) Gathering normally involves carry 30+ lbs of nuts for up to 6mi from groove to grove: lead to a 4-year birth spacing system, highly social work, generally accompanied by children. Has gradually shifted to farming as it proved effective. Classic studies have been conducted all over the world. Have low population density and a diet that is mostly plant foods (>50%) Social issues are solved via face-to-face interactions and the breakdown of groups.
