Medicare & medicaid pay private vendors to give care. Even fqhcs (federally qualified health center), migrant health centers, rural health centers, similar programs are private nonprofits funded largely by federal money. Publically owned include: military, dva, nhsc, city, county, state public hospitals and mental hospitals, city, county, state health departments, some prison health. Medical services in preindustrial america (pre industrial means roughly late 1700s to 1840s) The practice of medicine in the united states began as a cottage industry rather than a profession because medical procedures were primitive. There was no private or public health insurance. Until about 1870, medical training was received through an individual apprenticeship with a practicing physician. There were only about 42 such (cid:1684)schools(cid:1685) in 1850.
