Another piece is saved in the second drive and so on, and so on. If a drive dies, you will lose everything. Mirroring works by taking a piece of a file we want to save on the first drive, and a copy of the same piece is saved on the second drive. Essentially, a file you save will be mirrored in both (or more) drives. Advantages of raid 1 (mirroring): redudancy, and safety.
