Intense fear of gaining weight or behavior that interferes with gaining weight. Fear is not reduced by weight loss, there is no such thing as too thin . Distorted body image or sense of body shape. Even when emaciated, people maintain they are overweight. Typically weigh themselves frequently, measure the size of different parts of the body, and gaze critically at their reflections in mirrors. Self-esteem is closely linked to maintaining thinness. Restricting type weight loss is achieved by severely limiting food intake. Binge eating/purging type the person has also regularly engaged in binge eating and purging. 1% of the population suffers from anorexia nervosa.
