Race and ethnicity are different types of communities. Tough to find anyone without a communal identity. Seems to be in our genes, linked to survival. Humans are sociable animals, and humans that cooperate were more likely to survive. Out groups: at the same time, sharing resources with people who don"t reciprocate hinders survival. Tajfel: famous psychologist who found that it"s natural for humans to create in groups and out groups.
