Document Summary

Central nervous system: responsible for directing all of your actions, thoughts, whether your in control or not. Begins at base off brain and travels down middle of back. If the spinal cord gets damaged, then real problems arise (the higher up the damage is, the more of your body gets disabled) All reflexes are controlled by spinal cord and not by the brain. Reflex arc: a neural pathway that controls a reflex action. There are 3 major types of neurons: (1) afferent neurons aka as sensory neurons and (2) efferent neurons aka motor neuron and (3) interneurons. Sensory neurons: the neurons that extend from the sense organs to the spinal cord they carry messages from the outside world to the spinal cord. Efferent neuron: the neurons that extend from the spinal cord to your muscles. Interneurons: connect sensory neurons to motor neurons.
