PSY E240 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Collectivism, Dispositional Attribution, Display Rules
Document Summary
We are more likely to make dispositional attribution when we learn that a person received a positive incentive. We have more information about our own behaviour than we do about other"s behaviour, we assume that our behaviour is more variable than do those who observe us. Because we have access to our own internal attributes and beliefs, we can also give ourselves credit for having good intentions, even when we don"t carry them out. Failure can push you to get better and learn. Communicating in nonverbal ways: hesitation in talking, taking longer to talk, fewer gestures, when trying to deceive one usually tend to talk um ah and use fewer gestures. People may try to hide their emotions in order to avoid consequences of letting others know how they are feeling. Facial expressions conflict with information about the situation, we interpret the emotion in line with the situation and not the expression.
