The desire to connect with other people is a very powerful force. End of intimate relationship is very difficult. Dying people regard intimate relationships as most important thing in their life. Children will have physical and psychological problems if not given physical intimacy. Even in closest relationships we need space and time to ourselves. Women are more willing to share thoughts and feelings. For women sex is a way to show intimacy. For men sex is way to create intimacy. In 16th century germany marriage was consummated with witnesses watching. Most of the time we do have a choice, and there are many factors that influence why we start intimate relationships. Factors that determine who we start intimate relationships with. Physical appearance: most important factor, plays a role in all areas of society. Makes a difference in doctor"s care of patients, punishment of criminals, salary, treatment of children. Similar standards across cultures, but there are some cultural differences.
