Information Age
• All information has some truth behind it
o Misconception
• People are getting what’s fed to them based on their interests on social media
o You might think you are getting all of the news sources
▪ Causes bias, polarization, and conflict
• People can’t always tell if information is legitimate
o People will trust the source anyways
o Look at other sources
o How do you figure out if it is propaganda?
▪ Look at the authors other articles and see if they are bias
• The information Age is relatively new and people are trying to figure it out
• “Fake News”- Trump tells people what is real news and what isn’t
o His followers will believe everything he calls “fake news” while others will never
listen
How does the information age change society?
• People get information all the time
• Overload of information
• Studies show that this creates more stress
• People feel the need to check their phones regularly so we don’t miss anything
• It’s everywhere
• 100 years ago- libraries (not as extensive), schools, letters
o Did everybody have access? No
o There wasn’t as much information to teach
• The Press
o Relied on newspapers
It is very important to consider the misconceptions about the Information Age when doing
your research.
