might be important when evaluating source credibility.
2. Power point reviewing those rhetorical appeals
3. Go over sample article- Marijuana as Gateway Drug-and student jot down persuasive
techniques and categorize rhetorical appeals.
4. Discuss back of “Source Credibility” handout that students completed as homework.
5. Talk at your tables about reflections on your learning: What new insight about research
have you gained from our conversation today?
6. Distribute Credibility Paper #1 assignment.

The Rhetorical Appeals
1. Ethos
o Appeals to someone’s character
o Are they trustworthy?
o Are they educated?
o Are they reliable?
2. Pathos
o Appeals to someone’s emotion
o Love, anger, jealousy, hope
3. Logos
o Appeals to reason
o Case studies, authority, cause-and-effects, statistics
So many people are persuaded by emotion. Can that be dangerous?
o Yes.
